Contextual Safeguarding

Leicestershire were privileged to have Professor Carlene Firmin as their key note speaker at a webinar they ran to introduce some project work around contextual safeguarding within Leicestershire Authority. Carlene Firmin is an applied social researcher, concerned with safeguarding young people, social justice and inequality. She has a particular expertise in social care responses to abuse between young people and harm in extra-familial spaces and places. In 2015 she founded the concept of 'Contextual Safeguarding' to enhance practice and policy in this area. You can view her keynote speech from the Leicestershire webinar in 2022 below:

The introductory webinar linked below, delivered by the Contextual Safeguarding Network, looks at the application of the Contextual Safeguarding approach when a school is a context of harm. It discusses this through the lens of harmful sexual behaviour within schools and discusses how professionals can respond to this harm.

** Before running this webinar, please access the Contextual Safeguarding presentation delivered by Carlene Firmin which provides foundation knowledge into the concept of Contextual Safeguarding.
